Carlos Rodríguez designated leader, with Geraint Thomas and Filippo Ganna stars of the British formation
Ineos Grenadiers has announced the eight riders who will take part in the 2025 Tour de France, with Carlos Rodríguez as captain for the general classification, alongside two stars of the calibre of Geraint Thomas and Filippo Ganna.
For Welsh veteran Thomas, 39, it will be his last participation in the Grande Boucle before his planned retirement at the end of the season. An adventure, his fourteenth since his debut in 2007, that seemed in doubt after his fall at the Tour de Suisse, but that the winner of the 2018 Tour absolutely did not want to miss.
'I never imagined when I started in 2007 that I would still be here,' Thomas said. 'I've had my ups and downs, but it's an amazing race, the biggest and best in the world, my favorite.'
The young Rodríguez, 24, will lead the team's classification ambitions after the brilliant placings of the last two years (fifth in 2023 and seventh in 2024). Despite an up-and-down season so far, with a broken collarbone at the UAE Tour but also good placings in Romandie (sixth) and the Dauphiné (ninth), the Spaniard has shown great reliability in the Grand Tours.
Completing the lineup are Thymen Arensman, Tobias Foss, Axel Laurance, Connor Swift and new British champion Sam Watson.
“We’ve been racing this season the way we love – aggressively, with freedom and style – and we’re ready to bring that same approach to the biggest race of the year,” said Performance Director Scott Drawer.
With the announcement of Ineos, the latest team to reveal its lineup, all 184 starters for the 2025 Tour de France have now been confirmed.
