Thibau Nys is preparing for his first Tour de France with great ambition and determination. The talented Belgian rider from Lidl-Trek, despite making his debut in the Grande Boucle, has already identified four opportunities in the first seven days of the race.
The 22-year-old is recovering after being forced to withdraw from the Baloise Belgium Tour due to gastrointestinal problems. His coach Paul van den Bosch confirmed that despite this minor setback, Nys's basic form is good and he is on track for the start of the Tour in Lille on July 4.
In an interview with Nys he identified stages 2 (Boulogne-sur-Mer), 4 (Rouen), 6 (Vire-Normandie) and 7 (Mûr-de-Bretagne) as possible opportunities to aim for victory.
'On paper they are all good opportunities''but a lot will depend on how the race develops, if the breakaway goes away and how I feel'
As for his overall goals, Nys said he 'does not want to disappoint himself and especially the team'
In the second part of the Tour he will serve captain Mattias Skjelmose for the general classification, while in the sprints the team will work for Milan .
The young Belgian also admitted that he needs to improve his positioning in the group, an aspect in which he will be able to count on the experience of teammates such as Jasper Stuyven and Edward Theuns.
