The Dane celebrates Simon Yates' stage victory and his ability to respond to Pogačar

Jonas Vingegaard was tired but happy at the end of stage ten of the Tour de France, atop Mont-Dore in the Massif Central. His Visma-Lease a Bike team had several reasons to celebrate: Simon Yates' stage win, an excellent team tactical performance, and Vingegaard's ability to withstand rival Tadej Pogačar's accelerations.

"It was an incredible day for us. We won the stage, and personally, I'm very happy with my legs and how I felt today," Vingegaard said before descending from the finish line in Le Mont-Dore to reach the team bus.

The Dane is still 1:20 behind Pogačar in the general classification, a significant gap he will have to close: "I'm still behind and will have to make up time sooner or later. But so far in this Tour, I've been able to follow all his attacks, something I wasn't able to do in the Dauphiné. This shows that I've reached a better level."

Visma-Lease a Bike used Matteo Jorgenson to set the pace on the penultimate climb, then coordinated with Victor Campenaerts to support Yates. These were tactical moves rather than direct attacks on Pogačar.

Sports director Grischa Niermann commented: "Jonas is super strong, and so is Tadej. It was another powerful attack from Tadej, but Jonas managed to respond. Overall, a good day, but we're still behind in the overall standings. We'll have to find the right moment to attack him, and it won't be easy because he's really strong."
