Jay Vine (Alpecin Fenix) won, in the rain, the sixth stage of the Vuelta of Spain, the Bilbao-Ascensión at Pico Jano-San Miguel de Aguayo of 181.2 km.

On the fearsome final climb of about 12 km, with peaks of 10% gradient, the real protagonist is Remco Evenepoel (Quick Step), then second on arrival, who sprints at -8 from the finish and makes selection: the only one to resist him is a brilliant Enric Mas (Movistar), then third, while behind them Primoz Roglic, Jay Hindley, Simon Yates, Pavel Sivakov and Joao Almeida come off and have to run in defense.

In front of Vine, who in the meantime had started at -10, catching the last fugitive of the day, Mark Padun (Ef Education Easy Post), manages to maintain a slight advantage until the finish line. For the 26-year-old Australian it is the first victory in his career.
