World champion reaches historic milestone with spectacular victory in Rouen stage

Tadej Pogačar 's career reached a new milestone with his 100th victory on stage 4 of the Tour de France in Rouen. The world champion crowned this important milestone with an explosive attack on the final climb, beating Mathieu van der Poel and Jonas Vingegaard in the sprint.

'Winning the Tour is incredible, doing it in this jersey even more so, and reaching 100 victories is just fantastic,' Pogačar said in the post-race interview.

The Slovenian phenomenon has had an impressive journey since his first success in 2019 at the Volta ao Algarve. In seven years he has established himself as one of the all-time greats with three Tours de France (2020, 2021, 2024), one Giro d'Italia (2024) and a total of nine Monuments, including four Il Lombardia, three Liège-Bastogne-Liège and two Tour of Flanders, in addition to the world title won last year in Zurich.

In Rouen, Pogačar staged one of the most exciting finales of this Tour, attacking on the final climb of the 174.2km stage and outsprinting yellow jersey holder Van der Poel.

'With so many strong riders in the finale you're always a bit on edge and nervous about what can happen. You never know until the end... like today, you get this adrenaline, it's pure cycling and I love it,' commented the Slovenian.

Pogačar is now the big favorite for the overall victory at the Tour, tied in the standings with Van der Poel on the eve of the time trial in Caen. On the possibility of scoring his 101st victory and taking the yellow jersey, he said: 'Tomorrow is the real test. But having already won a stage with this jersey is enough for me. I will tackle the time trial to enjoy it, obviously we are aiming for the yellow jersey but we will see.'
