The Decathlon rider wins the second stage ahead of Carlos Rodriguez

Matthew Riccitello wins the second stage of the Tour de la Provence (2.1), from Forcalquier to la Montagne de Lure (174.9 km).

In the first part of the race, a breakaway made up of Foucher, Le Berre, Gillet, Sevilla and Wang broke away, approaching the final climb with less than 1 minute of advantage over the group towed by Decathlon.

On the climb, however, it was Ineos Grenadiers who worked with their entire team, placing themselves at the disposal of Carlos Rodriguez . The pace gradually broke down the group, and the Spaniard attacked with 4 km to go.

Only Riccitello manages to stay on his wheel and the two leave with about fifteen seconds on the pair of teammates formed by Rivera and Paret-Peintre .

Riccitello launched a two-man sprint. Rodriguez tried to respond in the final meters, but the American barely held on and triumphed. Rivera took third place.

Riccitello also takes the leader's jersey and tomorrow he will have to defend 4" on Carlos Rodriguez and 20" on Rivera.
