Jonas Vingegaard to lead all-star team
Visma-Lease A Bike has announced the eight riders who will support Jonas Vingegaard at the 2025 Tour de France, where the Danish champion will be chasing his third success in the French race, challenging his great rival Tadej Pogačar.
The Dutch team has built a top-level team around their captain, who can count on climbers of the calibre of Simon Yates, winner of the Giro d'Italia, and Sepp Kuss, winner of the 2023 Vuelta. They are joined by the American Matteo Jorgenson, an excellent eighth last year.
The Belgian component is represented by the champion Wout van Aert, already winner of nine stages at the Tour and potential candidate for the first yellow jersey in Lille, together with Tiesj Benoot and the debutant Victor Campenaerts. The roster is completed by the Italian Edoardo Affini, a time trial specialist at his first participation, who takes the place of the injured Christophe Laporte.
Sports director Grischa Niermann said:
'With these eight top-level riders we believe strongly in our plan for the Tour. We will be focused from day one to best support Jonas in the general classification, but there will be opportunities for stage wins for several of our riders. We are focusing exclusively on ourselves and our strategy.'The team is completing its preparation at high altitude in the Alps, in Tignes, where it was spotted during a reconnaissance on the Col de la Loze. For the occasion, the team will race in a special jersey called 'the swarm', featuring yellow and black stripes and embellished with the names of thousands of fans.
