Victory after a long escape, Evenepoel remains leader

Richard Carapaz won the 12th stage of the Vuelta, the 192.7km Salobreña-Peñas Blancas (Estepona).

The man of the Ineos Grenadiers, who redeemed himself after a start of the Vuelta not brilliant enough to leave the standings, was among the protagonists of the breakaway of the day with about thirty riders including the Italians Samuele Battistella, Edoardo Zambanini, Antonio Tiberi and Matteo Fabbro.

At the end of the final climb of almost 19 km, Carapaz was ahead of Wilco Kelderman (Bora hansgrohe) and Marc Soler (UAE Emirates) by a few seconds.

Behind them a little fright during the fraction for Remco Evenepoel (Quick Step Alpha Vinyl), who ended up on the ground but without consequences. The big players control each other and arrive together (Evenepoel, Roglic, Mas, Lopez, Ayuso) with a delay of over seven minutes. A little further back Carlos Rodriguez .
