The four-time Tour de France winner is on the road to recovery after surgery for multiple fractures.
Israel-Premier Tech confirmed that Chris Froome has undergone successful surgery following a serious crash during training near Toulon on Wednesday.
The British champion suffered serious injuries in the crash: a pneumothorax, five broken ribs, and a fractured lumbar vertebra. After being rushed to the hospital by helicopter on Wednesday, Froome underwent surgery on Thursday afternoon.
The team announced that the surgery went according to plan and that the rider is currently recovering under the supervision of the medical team. "Chris is in good spirits," the team said, "and grateful for the excellent medical support he has received. He and his family would like to thank fans, friends, and the cycling community for their concern and messages of support during this time."
