Decisive attack on top of Monte Serra

Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates) wins the Giro della Toscana, a 189.4km race starting and finishing in Pontedera.

The five-man breakaway today consisted of Bais, Stites, Brand, Holter, and Gimeno: the leaders gained a maximum advantage of just over 3 minutes. Bais and Holter remained in front on the first pass of Monte Serra, later joined by Milesi.

The race exploded, as expected, on the second pass of the Serra, with the first attacks from the top riders closing in on the breakaway. Christen's attacks were met with determination and energy by Storer , who, 2 km from the summit, went off on his own. Shortly before the summit, Del Toro managed to catch up with the Australian and break away.

On the descent, after catching Storer and Double, Carapaz set off in pursuit of the Mexican. In the final flat stretch, the head-to-head battle rewarded Del Toro , who gained on the EF rider and won by a wide margin.

After Carapaz was caught, Storer and Cras beat the rest of the group and shared the final two spots on the podium. Pinarello finished 4th.
