The social greeting: "Thank you all, it was a great trip."
Elia Viviani is saying goodbye to cycling and ending his career. This season, the Venetian sprinter wore the Lotto jersey, returning to victory in a stage of the Tour of Turkey , winning the Memorial Briek Schotte in Belgium, and taking fourth place in the first stage of the Vuelta , which started in Venaria Reale, Italy, and finished in Novara.
"Thank you all, it's been an incredible journey," Elia Viviani said in a social media video; a journey that began in 2010, wearing the jersey of Liquiga , his first professional team. From there, he spent time with Cannondale, moving to Team Sky from 2015 to 2017, and two years with Quick Step and Deceuninck, in 2018 and 2019. Then Cofidis in 2020 and 2021, before returning to Team Sky, which has since become Ineos Grenadiers from 2022 to 2024; and finally, his final year with Lotto.
On the road, Viviani has reached 90 victories, managing to secure stage wins in all three Grand Tours : five at the Giro d'Italia, one at the Tour de France, and three at the Vuelta a España. The Venetian sprinter also won a European Championship in 2019 , in Alkmaar, Netherlands, as well as three consecutive Hamburg Classics, from 2017 to 2019. But it is on the track that Viviani has achieved countless successes, becoming one of the world's leading exponents in the sector. His trophy cabinet includes Olympic gold at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020 , both coming in the Omnium, and silver at Paris 2024, in the Madison together with Simone Consonni. At the World Championships, Viviani has won a total of ten medals, including two gold; the last world championship podium dates back to less than a year ago, when Viviani finished in second place in the Elimination of the 2024 Ballerup event.
