Jarno Widar took revenge after his poor performance a week ago at the World Championships in Rwanda by winning European gold in the Under 23 category.

In France, the Belgian soloed to a dramatic victory ahead of Frenchman Maxime Decomble, while Spaniard Hector Alvarez took bronze in a sprint finish and the final step of the podium. Simone Gualdi finished fourth, while newly crowned world champion Lorenzo Finn finished only tenth, 52 seconds behind the day's winner.
