Second stage of the Itzulia Basque Country , from Viana to Leitza, the longest of this edition with 193.8km and over 3200 meters in altitude. Breakaway at 6 which starts in the first kilometers of the race with the Spaniard Barrenetxea who collects points on the first 3 GPM.

On the hard ramps of the ascent of   Salesas   Hayter's yellow jersey immediately comes off   and, after a timid attack from Carapaz, try the shot from afar   Mikel Landa   who gains 50” on the group and returns to the 3 remaining leaders: Romo, Barrenetxea and Jousseaume. Several teams collaborate in pursuit and catch up with the quartet even before the start of the final ascent of Arkiskil (11.1km at 3.1%). The slopes are not hard enough to make a difference and the group is compact.

The finish line is placed just after the descent, the decisive action is by the Bora -Hansgrohe rider   Ide Schelling   which cleverly exploits the winding arrival and precedes   Sobrero   And   Gaudu.

Unlucky Daniel Martinez who punctures at the beginning of the descent and reaches the finish line 30" late.

Schelling also becomes leader of the general standings thanks to the bonus.
