Interest in Van Baarle and other one-day specialists suggests a change of strategy from the Belgian team

The future of Remco Evenepoel continues to be at the centre of discussions in professional cycling, with the latest transfer market movements at Soudal-QuickStep increasingly suggesting his possible departure.

Dylan van Baarle is the latest name linked to the Belgian team, which already has Jasper Stuyven and Edward Planckaert lined up for next season. Following Yves Lampaert's contract extension, the team appears to be returning to focus on the Classics, moving away from the idea of building a support group for the Grand Tours around their champion.

Other names linked to the team include Fabio Van den Bossche, Steff Cras, Cériel Desal and Alberto Dainese, with only Cras likely to be considered as a domestique for the climbs to support Evenepoel, should he stay.

Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe remains the most likely destination for the Olympic champion, with several sources confirming that the agreement is now at an advanced stage, estimating a 70-80% chance that the move will materialize.

Van Baarle has already confirmed that he will leave Visma-Lease a Bike, and according to Flemish media, Soudal-QuickStep is in pole position to secure the former Paris-Roubaix and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad winner.

If Evenepoel were to leave before his contract expires, which would require an agreement between all parties involved, the Belgian team could return to focusing on sprints and the Classics, disciplines that brought great success during the Patrick Lefevere era.

CEO Jurgen Foré's recent transfer market moves don't seem to point to an immediate future with Evenepoel. While the wait for official confirmation continues, everything suggests that Ralph Denk, boss of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, will succeed in his attempt to secure the Belgian talent.
