Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) wins the twelfth stage of the Vuelta a España from Laredo to Los Corrales de Buelna (144.9km).

The first part of the stage favored the departure of a massive 52-man breakaway. On the Collada de Brenes, six riders attempted to break away, but Soler made himself available to Ayuso and, having caught up with the leaders, attacked halfway up the climb.

Romo follows the Spaniard's wheel, and the two crest the summit with Rolland 15" ahead and another chasing group 40" behind. The leading pair maintain their lead on the descent and then on the flat, and battle for the victory in the sprint.

Ayuso slipstreams in the final kilometer and tries to get ahead, but Romo gives in, and the UAE rider secures the Vuelta double. Rolland takes third place.

Nothing much is happening in the red jersey group, with the big names resting ahead of tomorrow's Alto dell'Angliru.
