Visma-Lease a Bike announces a top-level team to support the Danish champion
Dutch superteam Visma-Lease a Bike has unveiled the lineup that will support Jonas Vingegaard in his attempt to win his first Vuelta a España. The two-time Tour de France winner, after losing to Pogačar in July, is determined to win the third Grand Tour of the season.
The Danish champion will be supported by a top-class team, led by Sepp Kuss, winner of the 2023 Vuelta a España, when Visma achieved a historic hat-trick on the podium in Madrid. On that occasion, Vingegaard finished second despite appearing to be the strongest in the final stages.
The team also includes American Matteo Jorgenson, who suffered health problems at the Tour, and Victor Campenaerts, who proved to be a valuable domestique in July. The lineup also includes Dylan van Baarle, Wilco Kelderman, Axel Zingle, and the young British climber Ben Tulett, making his Vuelta debut.
"I'm here to win the overall and with this team that seems like a realistic goal," Vingegaard said.
"There are many stages where you can make a difference, so it's important to be ready from the start. I can't wait to get started."
The route features 11 summit finishes, but the team selected a mix of climbers and rouleurs to best tackle all stages, including the team time trial on stage five. After the Tour, Vingegaard focused on preparing for the Vuelta with an individual training camp supported by the team.
