The SD Worx Protime sprinter is preparing for a new challenge, aiming not only for stage victories but also for the leader's jersey

Lorena Wiebes is preparing for a new adventure at the Tour of Britain Women 2025, where she will not be content to simply add to her already impressive tally of stage wins. The SD Worx Protime sprinter, who has six wins in her previous three participations, is raising the bar this year by aiming for the general classification.

The conditions for this ambitious goal are all there. Wiebes has shown constant growth in her climbing ability, as demonstrated by her recent victory in the first stage of the Vuelta a Burgos on a challenging uphill finish. In addition, the absence of teammate Lotte Kopecky (last year's winner) opens up new opportunities for her.

A favorable path

"There are tough stages, but no really high mountain stages. That's why I dare to dream about the general classification," Wiebes said. "I've won several stages in the past, but I've never aimed for the general classification. Often there was a very difficult mountain stage that prevented me. This year it's missing from the route, so maybe there's a chance."

The 2025 Tour of Britain Women, which takes place from June 5-8 over a 423.6km route from Dalby Forest to Glasgow, will still present significant challenges, including a short explosive climb finish on stage two in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, with gradients of up to 22%.

Growth and ambitions

"I felt good at the Vuelta a Burgos," Wiebes added. "The victory on the summit finish gave me confidence, even though the Tour of Britain climb is much harder. The final time trial at the Vuelta a Burgos also went well. The feeling is good and I feel like my form is improving."

This new challenge represents just one stage in an intense period for Wiebes, who will also test her climbing skills at the Giro d'Italia Women and the Tour de France Femmes.
