The British rider talks about the performance of the UAE team and the young Del Toro, congratulating his twin on the triumph

Adam Yates has reacted to his brother Simon's victory at the Giro d'Italia, saying his team UAE Team Emirates-XRG can be 'proud' of how they rode in the Giro, despite losing the pink jersey on the penultimate stage.

Isaac del Toro was leading the race before the Colle delle Finestre, but crossed the finish line in Sestriere 45km later, almost four minutes behind Simon Yates, following a tactical stalemate between the Mexican and Richard Carapaz in the chasing group.

'We controlled the race for three weeks basically by ourselves,' said Adam Yates.

Adam highlighted the potential of the young Del Toro:

'Isaac is only 21, sometimes I forget how young he is. He has a great future ahead of him and will surely have many more opportunities like this'

.Regarding his brother Simon, Adam said he was 'super happy' with his victory, which allowed him to erase the bitter memory of the 2018 Giro, when he lost the pink jersey in the final week.

'If anyone had to win instead of us, my favorite was Simon. He tried so many times and finally managed to do it, so chapeau'

With a touch of humor, Adam admitted that he has some catching up to do with his brother's Grand Tour wins:

'He won a Vuelta, this Giro... Two Grand Tours is no small feat. I still have to win one before I think about catching up with him!'
