From Van Aert to Fortunato, passing through De Bondt and Tarozzi: here's who won the Corsa Rosa's special prizes
While the main focus of the final weekend of the Giro d'Italia was on the battle for the pink jersey, which was spectacularly won by Simon Yates (Visma-Lease A Bike) in the final mountain stage, the other classifications also found their definitive winners in Rome.
Unlike the dramatic finale for the general classification, which saw Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) lose the lead at the last possible opportunity, the battles for the blue and cyclamen jerseys proved less close.
Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS-Astana) and Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) took control of the climbers ' and points classifications respectively already in the first stages in Albania, holding them firmly until the end.
UAE Team Emirates nevertheless consoled itself with the white jersey of best young rider won by Del Toro and with the victory in the team classification.
But the Giro is not just about official jerseys. Among the various minor prizes, the one that stands out is
Bonacossa Trophyawarded to Wout van Aert for his outstanding overall performance, culminating in the decisive role he played in teammate Yates' eventual victory.
Belgian Dries De Bondt (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) took the intermediate classification with 115 points, while Manuele Tarozzi of the VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè team made it a double by winning both the new Red Bull Kilometre award and the breakaway award thanks to his 418km attack .
Finally, Lorenzo Fortunato completed his excellent Giro also winning the Super Premio della Combattività thanks to the numerous breakaways and the three stage prizes won during the race.
