The Italian women win the team pursuit event
Italy's first gold medal at the 2025 World Championships in Santiago, Chile . Martina Alzini , Martina Fidanza , Vittoria Guazzini , and Federica Venturelli , along with Chiara Consonni , who was also part of the group and rewarded for her efforts in the first round, took first place in the team pursuit, beating Germany . The Italians finished in 4:09.569, managing to hold off the German quartet, who completed their race in 4:09.951. Previously, Italy had comfortably defeated Australia (4:11.101 compared to the gold-green team's 4:18.823).
Italy's coach Marco Villa commented: "Our girls played brilliantly. We have a young group, and the addition of Venturelli, in his first quartet, was important. He's an interesting addition, along with Guazzini, Fidanza, Alzini, and Consonni, who are young but already experienced. We also have Elisa Balsamo and Letizia Paternoster at home, so we're looking confidently to the future, to Olympic qualification, and then, of course, to the 2028 Los Angeles Games."
