Team owner announces restructuring after Matt White's departure, aiming to modernize facility and improve performance

Gerry Ryan, owner of the Jayco AlUla and Liv-AlUla-Jayco teams, has decided to make a major change to the team structure, starting with the departure of Performance Director Matt White. A decision taken during the last Giro d'Italia, where the team still shone with two stage victories thanks to Luke Plapp and Chris Harper.

“Matt White has left a huge mark on the team, but if you keep doing the same things, you’re going to get the same results,” Ryan said in an exclusive interview, showing respect for the work done but also the need for change.

The seasonal balance so far sees only three WorldTour victories for the men's team, while the women's team Liv-AlUla-Jayco is still dry of success. A situation that has pushed Ryan to look for new solutions to compete with the super teams with the higher budgets.

A new vision for the future

"When I started in 2012 it was a different ballgame. It's not just about the riders and coaches, it's all about the science of the sport," Ryan explained. "We have to have a more structured process and clear accountability. We're trying to move forward and compete with the bigger teams, we have to be faster to beat them."

The restructuring is already underway, with the addition of new professional figures. The immediate goal is to do well at the Critérium du Dauphiné and the Tour de France with Ben O'Connor, while for the women's team the focus will be on the Tour of Britain Women, the Giro d'Italia Women and the Tour de France Femmes.

"We can't wait until the end of the season to act, it would be too late," Ryan concluded. "The season is certainly not over. We need to look for opportunities to win more races and get UCI points. We don't have to put it off until next year, we can start from the next race."
