The American signs until 2027, after fearing early retirement
A year ago, Larry Warbasse feared his career might end prematurely after Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale decided not to renew his contract. Today, at 35, the Michigan rider can look to the future with optimism thanks to a two-year extension with Tudor Pro Cycling .
The Swiss team announced on Friday the contract extension of Warbasse and his young German teammate Hannes Wilksch. This news comes after the American's seventh-place finish at the Maryland Cycling Classic .
Tudor has identified Warbasse as a mentor for the team , noting that the American, who has made France his adopted home, has long been recognized as a climbing specialist and a valuable teammate.
"I'm grateful to the team for the trust they've placed in me for another two years," said Warbasse. "My integration has gone very well, both in sharing experience with the young riders and in supporting our leaders in the major races. A highlight of this season was the Tour de Suisse, a race that holds a special place in my heart, not only because I won a stage there in 2017, but because it's our home race. My dream? To one day participate in the Tour de France."
A dream that could come true as early as 2026, given that Tudor , as the second best ProTeam, would be entitled to an automatic invitation to all the Grand Tours and Classics of the World Tour.
