Second place on Mont Ventoux and a fighting spirit award for the Irish EF Education-EasyPost rider.

Ben Healy and the breakaways at the Tour de France: a pairing that continues to provide a spectacle. The Irish rider from EF Education-EasyPost is enjoying a memorable Tour, already having won a stage, a stint in the yellow jersey, a top-10 finish overall, and now a brilliant second place on the legendary Mont Ventoux.

On Tuesday's stage, Healy confirmed his extraordinary form. After joining the day's breakaway, he stayed with the leaders as the peloton gradually thinned out, eventually competing for the win in the leading trio when Enric Mas (Movistar) was in a solo breakaway on the Ventoux.

The perfect tactic is not enough

"I managed the breakaway very well, saving energy until the Ventoux," Healy explained. "At the start of the climb, I wasn't confident in my legs, but I kept a steady pace. Then I realized I had a great feeling and that we could fight for the win."

Unfortunately for him, he wasn't able to break away from his opponents in the finale, nor beat Valentin Paret-Peintre (Soudal-QuickStep) in the uphill sprint. "Maybe I should have managed the effort differently, because today I had really great legs," he admitted with a hint of regret.

Double objective: stage and classification

The performance nevertheless allowed him to consolidate his position in the general classification, rising to ninth place. "I'm in a position that allows me to aim for both the general classification and stage wins, given the significant gaps. Today I wanted to follow the movements without wasting energy on attacks, ready to seize any opportunities that presented themselves."

For the EF Education-EasyPost team, it was another demonstration of Healy's growth, confirming him as one of the revelations of this 2025 Tour de France.
