Farewell to Picnic and a two-season contract

Oscar Onley has signed with the INEOS Grenadiers team for the start of the 2026 season, after agreeing a move to his current team, Picnic PostNL.

The Scottish rider from Kelso has made his mark on the peloton since turning professional at just 19, achieving a string of impressive results against top-level opponents. His fourth-place finish at the 2025 Tour de France, at just 22, made him the youngest rider to finish in the top 10 and highlighted his ability to compete at the highest levels of the sport.

Oscar Onley said:
"I grew up watching Geraint, Dave, and the team dominate the sport and put cycling on the map in the UK, so I'm really proud to join the Grenadiers on a long-term deal, which will also mean riding for a British team when the Tour de France starts in Scotland in 2027. I want to thank Team Picnic PostNL for all their support—I'm really proud of what we've achieved together. I'll miss my friends on the team and cherish the memories shared with them, and I know I'll face tough competition in the coming years from the next generation of talent they'll be developing."

Geraint Thomas, Sporting Director, added:
Oscar's 2025 season has been truly incredible. I rode my first Tour at 21, so seeing what he's achieved this year at just 22 has been truly impressive. The way he rides and approaches the race is mature beyond his years: he's a true racer. I can't wait to work with him: at his age, there's still enormous room for growth. The entire team worked hard over the winter to refocus and redefine our ambitions, changing structures and processes to help us achieve our goals. Oscar is a natural fit for this project, and I'm confident that the new system we're building will help him reach his full potential. The strongest teams I've ever raced with had more highly talented GC riders, and that's what I feel I have now: very strong options for every phase of the race. Oscar perfectly complements our roster, and it really feels like we're on the right track.
