Route Analysis and Favorites: Pogacar to Top Five

Before analyzing the route and possible protagonists of Il Lombardia on Saturday 11 October 2025, we remind you to field your team in the special league that you can find on the app dedicated to the last Monument classic of the year and to conclude the Monument League and the Legend League in style in collaboration with Discovery Plus. Wonderful gifts up for grabs: discover them on our social channels!

The Fallen Leaves Classic closes the World Tour calendar as always. The route is approximately 239 kilometers with over 4,400 meters of elevation gain . The route runs from Como to Bergamo , following a proven route in recent seasons. After a few kilometers, the riders tackle the Madonna del Ghisallo, a signature climb of 8.6 kilometers at a 6.2% gradient. This is followed by rolling sections until entering the province of Bergamo.

The second part of the race begins with the Roncola Alta (Valico di Valpiana): 7.5 km at 7.4%, with peaks of up to 17%. This is the first real test for the favorites. Next comes the Berbenno, 6.9 km at 4.9%, which will help maintain the selection.

The race continues with the Crocetta (11.7 km at 5.8%) and the Zambla Alta (9.8 km at 3.3%), which take the group above 1,200 meters above sea level. At this point, there are about 50 km to go and the riders begin to move more decisively.

The key moment comes with the Ganda Pass, a 9km long route at 7.1%, with sections exceeding 10%. This is often where the race is decided: whoever manages to get to the top with a clear lead can maintain their advantage on the long, technical descent to Selvino.

There are approximately 15 km to go from the valley floor. The finale includes the passage into Bergamo Alta with the Colle Aperto climb, 1.3 km at 7.8% with sections at 12%, followed by a short downhill stretch and the final 800-meter straight on Viale Vittorio Emanuele II.

Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) is the main favorite. He has won the last four editions and is aiming for a fifth consecutive victory, a goal that would put him level with the race's historic records.

Remco Evenepoel (Soudal–Quick Step) represents the main alternative: but he will have to better manage the technical descents and irregular slopes of the finale.

Tom Pidcock (INEOS Grenadiers) can be dangerous if the race breaks down more than 30km from the finish: he is explosive and skilled on the descents.

Among the outsiders are Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl–Trek) , Richard Carapaz (EF Education) , and the young Isaac Del Toro , Pogačar's teammate, who could have a significant tactical role.
